As you guys know, we just moved out of our first apartment and everything was not as smooth as we thought. But as I learned from that experience, things can not be as stressful with the right strategy.
Organize Your Move
Keeping things manageable extends even to your move out of your apartment. It saves you time and money as you know how and where items would go and not lose them. Packing is smoother and does not clutter your house and your mind. It also lessens stress and, when done right, makes your move enjoyable.
Moving Tips
Part of our move is a new learning experience that taught me how to be more organized and stress-free before, during and after our move. Though to be honest, it was more of a “learning after doing the mistake of not doing it”.

So here are some organizing tips that I’m sure will be of great help for your move:
- As soon as you decide to move, begin looking through your things and sort out items for “donations”, “trash” or “yard sale”. These items are what you feel not bringing with you to your new home.
- Take a picture of your things before you leave to avoid leaving things behind.
- Start with one room each week or day, whatever time you have before the moving day.
- Pack your things in boxes and label them with numbers and list those numbers in a notebook for your reference.
- Categorize your boxes into: kitchen, living room, bath, bedroom, etc. Make sure to fill each box with the items you have from one room only.
- Begin repairs weeks before your move. Prospective tenants are most likely to visit to check out the place even before you move out so it’s better to keep things okay with your landlord by fixing a few things here and there.
- Layer your box bottom with something soft. A comforter or pack of clothes will do. This way, you can ensure your items will not break during your move.
